கதைக்கு சம்மந்தம் இல்லாத முன்னுரை:

அமெரிக்காவில் கொரோனா வைரஸ் கேஸ்கள் இன்னும் அதே போல்தான் தொடர்கிறது. 104000 இறப்புகள். 1.7 மில்லியன் பாசிட்டிவ் கேஸ்கள்.

மக்களால் அடைந்து கிடக்க முடியவில்லை. வெளீயே வர ஆரம்பித்து விட்டார்கள். கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாக எல்லாவற்றயும் திறக்க ஆரம்பித்து விட்டார்கள். மறூபடியும் அதிகம் பரவும் என்பது தெரிந்தும், மக்கள் வெளீயே வர்ராங்க.

வாஷிங்டன் ஸ்டேட்லதான் அமெரிக்காவில் முதன் முதலில் அதிக கேஸ்கள் இருந்தது. அதிக உயிரிழப்பும் ஏற்பட்டது. ஒரு மாதிரி பீக் கை அடைந்து இப்போ ஓரளவுக்கு சரியாகிவிட்டது. இதுபோல் எல்லா மாநிலங்கள்லயும் ஆகும் என்பது தெரிந்தாலும் யாருக்கும் பொறூமை இல்லை. விஞ்ஞானிகள் சொல்வதெல்லாம் யாரும் கேட்பதாக இல்லை.

சைனாவில் மட்டும் 83,000 கேஸ் கள், 4,600 உயிரிழப்போட நின்றூவிட்டது போல் கணக்குக் காட்டுறாங்க. இதை யாரும் நம்பவில்லை.

"India has a pretty warm weather. May be the virus is less aggressive in warm weather? Texas and California are doing better than New york and Illinois."

"Yeah Texas dont have that many deaths. It is a big state with huge population. May be because it is warm?"

"May be. The death-rate is relatively low in India and countries which have warm weather"

"It is possible it may have got mutated to another virus in warm weather and which is not that deadly?"

"Idk,Caro. Let us understand some virology. Caro! You are the master! According to Baltimore classification, what type of virus is this?"

"This belongs to type IV, I believe. The genome has (+ve)- single-stranded RNA in Coronaviruses"

"So, it is an RNA virus. Just like HIV? Genome has single-stranded positive-sense RNA just like HIV"

"Not quite, HIV has reverse transcriptase as well but Coronaviruses do not have that enzyme. HIV is classified as type VI "

"Why is that?"

"HIV has (+ve sense) single-stranded RNA as well but it is a retrovirus, Coronavirus is not a retrovirus. They replicate in a completely different manner"

"Though they both have positive-sense RNA as their genome? How are they different? Their target cells are different, that I know"

"Yeah, HIV targets helper T cells,  those are immune cells or a kind of white blood cells but Coronavirus targets lung cells and bronchi."

"And How they replicate?"

"Coronavirus replicates just like poliovirus but it gets into lung cell, not muscle cells. As soon as it gets into cytoplasm, it releases its single-stranded RNA. The RNA acts just like a messenger RNA. It will be taken to Ribosome and get translated to proteins necessary for making new daughter viruses. Not only that it has an enzyme called replicase, it will make a -ve sense RNA strand which is complementary strand of genome (+)-ssRNA. Then the negative strand  ssRNA will be used as a template to make +ss-RNA genome. It can not muliply its positive sense ss-RNA without making complementary - sense ss-RNA"

"So, it never gets into nucleus at all? Does not make DNA? Does not integrate in our chromosome at all"

"That is correct. It does not. At least for replication."

"How about HIV?"

"HIV enters helper T cells (a kind of white blood cells) just like Corona virus. Once it get into cytoplasm, reverse transcriptase, makes a complementary (-ve sense) DNA using this +ssRNA genome. Then that DNA used as template to make a complementary DNA strand. Once it makes both strands of DNA which is a "copy" of its genome in a DNA form. It is taken into our nucleus and an enzyme called inegrase, inserts the DNA piece into the chromosome (DNA) of helper T cell and it will get transcribed and make all the necessary proteins and the ss-RNA genome and all the enzymes such as reverse transcriptase, hiv protease, integrase to make daughter viruses. It will make lots of them and then eventually the helper T cell will not be able to survive and dies"
