நான் நினைத்ததுபோல் அல்லாமல் இந்தியாவும் ஒரு கொரோனா வைரஸ் வாக்சின் தயாரிச்சு, வெளியிட தயாராகியுள்ளார்கள்.

 இந்தியன் வாக்சின் எப்படி இந்த வைரஸ்க்கு எதிரா வேலை செய்யுது. இல்லைனா வைரஸ்க்கு எதிரா எப்படி எதிர்ப்பு சக்தி உண்டாக்குது?

சைனாவில் தயாரித்த வாக்சின் போன்றது. அதாவது வீரியமில்லாத (கொல்லப்பட்ட) கொரோனா வைரஸ்தான் இந்த வாக்சின். வைரஸ்  கொல்லப்பட்டு இருந்தாலும், அதில் உள்ள பயோ மாலிக்கூல் (ஸ்பைக் ப்ரோட்டீன் உள்பட) எல்லாம் உயிரோட இருக்கலாம். அதை நம் உடலில் செலுத்தும்போது, அதற்கு எதிர்ப்பு சக்தி உண்டாகும்..

How does Covaxin work?

The homegrown government-backed vaccine has been developed by Bharat Biotech, a 24-year-old vaccine maker, which has a portfolio of 16 vaccines and exports to 123 countries.

It is an inactivated vaccine which means that it is made up of killed coronaviruses, making it safe to be injected into the body. Bharat Biotech used a sample of the coronavirus, isolated by India's National Institute of Virology.

When administered, immune cells can still recognise the dead virus, prompting the immune system to make antibodies against the pandemic virus.

 

 

The two doses are given four weeks apart. The vaccine can be stored at 2C to 8C.

Bharat Biotech says it has a stockpile of 20 million doses of Covaxin, and is aiming to make 700 million doses out of its four facilities in two cities by the end of the year. 

 

What is the controversy around Covaxin?

It all began when the regulator said the vaccine had been approved for "restricted use in emergency situations in public interest as an abundant precaution, in clinical trial mode, especially in the context of infection by mutant strains".

Experts wondered how a vaccine was cleared for emergency use by millions of vulnerable people when its trials were still underway.

Both the manufacturer and drug regulator say Covaxin is "safe and provides a robust immune response".

But the All India Drug Action Network said it was "baffled to understand the scientific logic" to approve "an incompletely studied vaccine". It said that there were "intense concerns arising from the absence of the efficacy data".

Bharat Biotech has defended the approval, saying Indian clinical trial laws allowed "accelerated" authorisation for use of drugs after the second phase of trials for "unmet medical needs of serious and life-threatening diseases in the country". It has promised to provide efficacy data for the vaccine by February.

"Yeah, it is an Organic compound with a CN group in it,  which can degrade in our stomach (you have HCl there), and release -CN ion"

"It wont kill me?"

"It releases very little amount of cyanide, not like KCN or NaCN or HCN. If you eat grams of apple seed, then only cyanide can kill you! Thats very unlikely"

"It can really kill me if I eat a lot of apple seeds"

"YES,  IT WILL, Caro!"

"How does cyanide ion kill us, anyway?"

"I think it sort of making strong complex with Fe2+ ion in hemoglobin, where usually oxygen binds and CN, does not allow oxygen to bind on it. Carbon monoxide does the same. So, Hemoglobin can not carry oxygen to our cells because cyanide took the spot of Oxygen and, so cells will not live without oxygen. When our cells die, we will die too"

"Seriously?"

"I strongly believe that is how it kills us. You must have studied, Right?"

"I don't study like Chemists do" 

"Anyway, Cyanide ion is the one which causes trouble. You can get that in several different sources. It is all about love"

"Ha ha ha, love?"

"Yeah, Fe2+ ion in our Hemoglobin loves Cyanide ion more than Oxygen molecule. And they form a strong bond and so, poor oxygen can not bind. That eventually kills us"

"What do we got in Apple seeds you said?" 

"It is called Amygdalin. It has couple of glucose molecules and a cyanide group as well"

 "Learning about anything is always good, Caro. Especially when we have the background to learn. Anyway, that is what really happening. Do you know bitter Almond is bad for you if you eat a lot?"

"Me neither but the second dose will give you mild fever"

"Apparently not. It is exactly same amount of same dose . 0.3 mL of that solution, but Idk the concentration of mRNA. I think our immune system is already awake because of first dose. Now the second dose will make it to fight hard,which might give you a mild fever"

"It will be very mild, Caro. Dont worry"

"Do you know anything about this Chinese vaccine?"

"I think it has inactive or killed virus in it"

"Thats what I heard. They try wake up our immune system by providing weak virus" 

"I think mRNA vaccine is the best!"

"I dont think so. I think Astrazeneca - oxford vaccine is better for practical purposes and it is cheap. Countries like India  can easily afford"

"They say it is 60-92% effective. Such a wide range!"

"I would take it as 60% effective."

"Is that similar to sputnik and oxford vaccine?"

"I need to compare and see the difference. But this vaccine you need only one dose"

"Are they ready for FDA approval?'

"I think they are in the final stage of phase 3 trial May be it will be approved in few months?"
